Something dangerous for our democracy is happening at the U.S Election Assistance Commission, and you can help.

Background: The Commission has 4 members, 2 appointed by Obama 2 by Trump, and has taken up an issue widely hyped by Trump and the MAGA faithful. The EAC is considering adopting a requirement that voters show a passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.

Potential consequences: Preventing many Americans from voting, primarily those with lower incomes and less familiarity with navigating systems. One example: women who changed their last names when they married. As a result, their current name will not match that on their birth certificate and they will be disqualified.

"I'm against requiring citizens to submit a passport, birth certificate, or other

citizenship document to register to vote. This proposal would saddle election

officials with unfunded mandates, expose them to new legal risks, and create

confusion and disenfranchisement for voters - all while duplicating

safeguards that already exist."
