Call Congress
Why Take Action?
The BBB (officially: Public Law 119-21) will harm all lower-income Americans while greatly benefitting the top 10% of households by income, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. (1) (https://www.cbo.gov/publication/61387)
The BBB will have a disproportionately damaging effect on senior Americans because of
deep cuts to programs benefitting them.
1. The law includes the largest cuts in history to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), all to expand tax cuts for the wealthy. The law endangers the health and financial security of millions of older adults across America by cutting
these programs by well over $1 trillion and taking health coverage from 15 million people. (2) (https://justiceinaging.org/the-budget-reconciliation-act-of-2025-means-harmful-cuts-for-older-adults/)
2. In addition, enactment of the BBB will result in deep cuts to Medicare. The BBB triggers future massive cuts to Medicare due to the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2010 (S-PAYGO). This law kicks in when legislation increases the deficit, and Medicare cuts are
set to begin in fiscal year 2026 unless Congress acts. [T]he ordered reductions in Medicare....would total roughly $490 billion over the 2027-2034 period. (3) (https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2025-05/61423-PAYGO.pdf)
Take Action
We the Seniors (WTS) - an alliance of 38 senior-led organizations and thousands of individuals - is launching a 5Calls campaign to raise our voices against these harmful cuts to our healthcare. Congress can act to exempt Medicare from these cuts.
