Medicare For All: Pay Less, Get More Care - Presentation 10:00 am Doors Open at 9:30

Chapel In The Pines, 220 Samoset Road, Eastham (Or, See Below for Zoom Link)

Published on April 19, 2026

Join us as Bonnie Shepard from the Cape Cod Coalition for Universal Health Care discusses Medicare for All in Massachusetts, a bill which would provide universal health coverage for all state residents without co-pays, premiums, or deductibles, through a single payer — the Massachusetts Health Care Trust.

The political obstacles to passage of the bill in the State House reveal a lack of democracy and transparency, and the role of industry lobbyists. The high costs and poor health outcomes of the current for-profit system will be summarized, with a focus on the abuses of Medicare Advantage plans. This bill would ban private insurance coverage for services already covered by the single-payer system.

Bonnie will discuss the strategy being used on the Cape to compare the current costs of health insurance for towns with the costs under Medicare for All, showing significant savings both for towns and town employees, including the savings found in Eastham. She will also summarize the new economic analysis from Mass-Care, showing eye-popping savings for the whole state. We will wrap up with an explanation of what we hope to achieve through the citizen’s petition at town meeting, which includes follow-up after the meeting by Eastham town leaders and citizens.

Bonnie L. Shepard (M.Ed., MPA) focused her professional career on reproductive and sexual health and human rights issues, with a concentration on women’s and young people’s health and rights. She was a foundation program officer, mainly working in Latin America, in the 1980s and 1990s. From 1998 to 2024 she was an independent researcher and evaluation consultant for nonprofits, foundations, and international agencies. Now a Wellfleet resident, she coordinates the Cape Cod Coalition for Universal Health Care, and serves on the Planning Board, the Community Preservation Committee, and the Wellfleet Democratic Town Committee.

War On Women

Contact Keating, Warren, and Markey

Published on June 18, 2026

With Project 2025 implemented, the Heritage Foundation and Trump regime are moving on to Project 2026. Saving America by Saving the Family, A Foundation for the Next 250 Years aims to remove all of the hard-won rights for women and girls - including the right to vote.

Replacing real health care for women with fake crisis pregnancy centers is part of that plan. Perhaps you noticed that on Mothers Day this year, the Trump regime released moms.gov, a website that purports to provide "Resources, Information, and Help for New and Expecting Mothers." While it does provide info about federally qualified health centers (FQHC), it subtly equates crisis pregnancy centers with FQHC and provides a list of conveniently located CPCs "near you" when you click on the links that take you to the religiously supported and unregulated crisis pregnancy center websites. There is a threat to replace real medical care with prayer dressed in a lab coat and forcing women and girls into the traditional roles of wife and mother. Read more from Carrie Baker in MS Magazine below.

While the moms.gov roll-out may have gone under the radar, some Congress members did notice and on June 5, 2026, they sent a scathing letter to Secretary Kennedy demanding answers to their questions and concerns about it. Only three Massachusetts Representatives signed this letter, and Representative Keating was not one of them. Since then, they have issued a press release. The Reproductive Health and Freedom Watch also issued a press release calling for moms.gov to remove CPC information until questions about patient safety, medical oversight and privacy are resolved.

You’ve probably already guessed what’s next. It’s way past time to demand that Representative Keating, and our Senators Markey and Warren, draw a line in the sand. They must make clear that they will not stand for forcing women back to the days of barefoot and pregnant. Please take a few moments to contact them. You can use the following script below, make it your own, or use your own words to call/email them.

Dear ______

I was appalled to see the Trump administration roll out moms.gov on Mother’s Day where they equate the religious crisis pregnancy center industry with properly licensed healthcare facilities for women. As you know, crisis pregnancy centers are completely unregulated, do not provide real medical care, and collect patient data without following HIPAA regulations. They endanger women’s health. While it is clear that this administration does not care about women, it is time for Democrats to stand up to the president and Secretary Kennedy.

[For Keating: I am concerned that your signature does not appear on the letter 87 of your peers sent to Secretary Kennedy. Will you denounce the inclusion of fake crisis pregnancy centers on an HHS website and demand its removal?]

[For Senators Markey and Warren: I am concerned that Senators have not spoken out about the inclusion of fake crisis pregnancy centers on an HHS website. Will you demand that they be removed from the government website until questions about patient safety, medical oversight and privacy are resolved?]

Sincerely,

[Your name and address]
